There’s this fantastic review and test from Sharpco Knives down in South Korea, all about the Jende Nanocloth 210x70mm Bench Strops paired up with the Jende Poly Diamond Emulsions. These Nanocloth Bench strops come in 4 micron and 0.5 micron, along with the 4 micron and 0.5 micron Poly Diamond Emulsions in 50ml (2oz). Now, the video’s a silent one, except for the sweet sound of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture playing in the background. But let me tell ya, even without words, this test speaks volumes about the top-notch quality of Jende’s gear and the skill of the gent over at Sharpco Knives.
The video kicks off with an unwrapping session, sizing up the strop and showing off the color coding for easy reference—pink for 4 micron and red for 0.5 micron strops and emulsions. A handy guide, especially for folks juggling different grit strops. Then comes the loading of the strops and establishing a starting sharpness by cutting paper and running the Bess Tester three times, averaging a BESS 345 (the lower, the better). That’s pretty much factory sharp—not too shabby, but room for improvement.
So, our guy at Sharpco Knives gets down to business. He hits up the 4 micron Jende Nanocloth loaded with the 4 micron Jende Poly Diamond Emulsion, giving each side five good strokes. Test time again—paper cutting and three rounds on the BESS tester—an average of BESS 176. That’s like slicing the baseline in half! Then he moves to the 0.5 micron, five strokes per side, and lands at an average BESS 165—just a bit better. But wait, five more strokes on the 0.5 micron (totaling 10), and boom, average of BESS 145—almost a 20% boost over the 4 micron in just 10 strokes!
This first leg of the test really showcases how these strops and emulsions fine-tune an existing edge. But hey, 5 or 10 strokes can’t quite undo that factory edge completely. Sharpco Tester knows it too, so he pulls out the spyderco UF to really sharpen things up. Off the 4 micron, the average hits BESS 105—impressive! And off the 0.5 micron, it’s a mighty respectable BESS 90, landing the sharpness in razor blade territory.
The finale’s a spectacle—hair whittling and paper cutting as the music hits its peak—a fitting celebration of a job done right and a marvelous showcase of Sharpco Knives’ skills paired with Jende Industries’ top-notch gear!
