What is the Jende Glass Lapping Plate used for?
The Jende 10×4 Glass Lapping Plate is primarily designed to clean and flatten water stones, whetstones, and other sharpening stones - especially resin bonded diamond stones. When used with the included Silicon Carbide powders the engraved surface pattern ensures extended flatness and precision of the plate while imparting a desired surface texture to the stone. The second use is the flat, smooth side of the plate can be used as a flat reference plate with sandpaper or diamond film to flatten and sharpen metal and ceramic blades. It is especially useful when sharpening meat grinder blades.

How do I use Silicon Carbide powders with the glass lapping plate?
First, evenly sprinkle a thin layer silicon carbide powder that corresponds to the stone's grit (coarse, medium, or fine) onto the wet glass plate. Mark grid lines on the stone's surface with a pencil. Rub the sharpening stone grid side down in a figure-eight, X-pattern or circular motion until flat, rotate the stone 180 degrees and repeat until grid lines are fully removed. Rinse thoroughly afterward to avoid cross-contamination.

What are the benefits of the Jende 10×4 Diamond Lapping Plate?
This lapping plate features permanently bonded industrial diamond abrasives that make it ideal for aggressively flattening and resurfacing most sharpening stones. It provides long-term durability and requires no loose grit, making it cleaner and more convenient.

Can the Jende Diamond Lapping Plate be used for knife sharpening?
The Jende Diamond Lapping Plate's diamond grid pattern is purely designed for flattening stones and allowing for runoff to prevent stiction. It is not designed as a sharpening plate. However, the back side of the plate is flat and smooth, and can be used with sandpaper or diamond film as a reference plate and sharpening surface.

What is Jende 2×6 Diamond Lapping Film used for?
These adhesive-backed films are used for precision polishing and sharpening on flat surfaces, such as glass or acrylic plates, or to be wrapped around a dowel or other shapes for abrading in curves or radiuses. They offer consistent grit size and high-performance edge refinement on knives and tools.

What makes the Jende 3×8 Diamond Films unique?
The 3×8" size offers a larger working surface, ideal for freehand sharpening or use with lapping plates and sharpening rigs. These films provide precise, clean cutting performance, and their durability ensures reliable polishing across all steel types and ceramic blades.
