What is a Nanocloth strop?
A Nanocloth strop is a modern strop made of ultra-fine microfiber material mounted to a firm base. It is designed for use with diamond emulsion or compounds and provides excellent edge refinement without the mess or inconsistencies of traditional leather strops.
How is a nanocloth strop different from a leather strop?
Unlike leather, which can compress and round off a knife's edge, nanocloth is more stable and consistent. It holds abrasive compounds more evenly, doesn’t deform under pressure, and is less prone to contamination or buildup.
Can Nanocloth strops be used on all knives?
Yes, but they are especially popular among users of high-end Japanese or carbon steel knives. Their precision makes them ideal for kitchen knives, razors, and EDC blades where edge refinement is critical.
How do you maintain a nanocloth strop?
Keep it dry and clean do not soak, Wipe gently with a microfiber cloth between uses, Reapply compound as needed, usually after several uses, Avoid cross-contamination of grit levels.
