Thank you for choosing Jende Industries 2 Sided Paddle Strop Rough & Kangaroo Leather or 2 Sided Paddle Strop Rough & Smooth Cow Leather. Your strop is made in the Taiwan with top-quality materials.
Your strop is for finishing razor-sharp edges on knives, carving tools, and woodworking tools. Use these instructions after sharpening by any method to get the sharpest edge. Your strop is also great for keeping edges sharp. We suggest stropping lightly and often. A few strokes on the strop before you notice a loss of cutting ability will maintain your knife’s sharpness.
Paddle Strop Features
Your strop has two leather surfaces: suede and smooth. Each is firmly attached to a hardwood core with a handle for safe use. A leather lanyard at the handle end allows for convenient hanging storage.
Using Your Strop
Here’s how to get the most out of your new Double-Sided Paddle Strop. If you have any questions about your strop or how to use it, contact us by phone at +886-0958296270 or via email at or****@*************es.com.
Start on the Suede Side
Begin with the suede leather side of the strop. Hold the handle and make sure you have space to move the blade along the strop. For stability, place the strop on a solid surface or support the end. Make sure there’s enough room so you won’t hit your knuckles on the surface.
Stroke Away from the Cutting Edge
Use light pressure and stroke away from the cutting edge. Lay the blade’s bevel on the strop, using the same angle as sharpening. Glide the blade along the strop, always moving away from the edge. Sliding the blade along its length ensures the entire edge is treated. Start from the heel, lifting the handle as needed to follow any curve. Lift straight up at the end of the stroke. Avoid rocking, as this rounds the edge. Return to the starting position and repeat. Do 12 strokes on each side.
Flip the Blade
After 12 strokes, flip the blade and repeat on the other side. You can switch hands or start at the other end of the strop for 12 strokes in the opposite direction.
Finish on the Smooth Side
Now use the smooth leather side. Repeat the process from the suede side, using light pressure and stroking away from the edge. Do 12 strokes on each side.
Maintaining Your Strop
Strops need little maintenance. Keep yours clean and free of dust, water, or other contaminants. If the leather looks dry, use a leather conditioner like Herold – Solingen Leather Treatment. Store your strop where it’s easily accessible. Using it often maintains a sharp edge.
Honing Compound
We recommend honing compound for the suede side. You can use your strop with or without compound, but compound speeds up polishing. We suggest Green Honing Compound for its fine results and economy.
Applying Compound
Apply Honing Compound to the suede side. Rub the Green Honing Compound stick like a crayon on the suede side. The compound’s wax softens with friction. Apply until green is visible over most of the strop.
After several sessions, the compound turns black. Rub new compound over the old. You can scrape off old compound if desired, using a knife blade or scraper.
