Clay Alison, from Wicked Edge Precision Sharpener (WEPS), recently approached me to create a tutorial focusing on the Chosera stones for the WEPS. Rather than crafting another one of my signature lengthy write-ups, I decided to delve into the realm of video tutorials. The result? Three comprehensive videos!
The first video serves as an introduction to Chosera stones, covering stone flattening and cleaning, along with adjusting angles to accommodate the Chosera stones’ thickness versus the stock WEPS. I demonstrate three different strokes used on the WEPS—Circles, Scrubbing, and Sweeping—accompanied by detailed microscope imagery.
Moving on to the second video, I embark on the actual sharpening process of a 3.5″ Maestro Wu Bombshell Steel folding knife using the 400, 1K, 3K, 5K, and 10K Chosera stones. While it’s a bit lengthy, I aimed for a “real-time” representation. For brevity, the higher grit stages underwent some editing, allowing viewers to grasp the process and timing. The finale involves utilizing the WEPS leather strops, one side loaded with Ken Schwartz’s .125 micron CBN, and the other with clean leather, interspersed with additional microscope visuals.
Now, for the third video, witness the same Maestro Wu knife undergo a straight razor shave right after its treatment on the WEPS. While it may not rival my most controversial shaving videos (like these!), it offers close-ups and a delightful musical backdrop!
A shoutout to Colin Brown of ModelMosa for lending his studio, and heartfelt thanks to Trevor Joines (TVGUY101), my camera person, and video editor.
