1x6 Jende 1,200 Diamond Stone Plate
The 1x6 Jende 1200 Diamond Stone is a fine diamond plate used for touching up of edges, establishing a working sharp edge, And preparing an edge for further refinement. Diamond abrasives at this level stay flat their entire lifespan, and don’t shed abrasive or hog water. They cut very quickly and efficiently, and are the best all-around replacements for the coarsest synthetic and natural stones.
The Jende 1200 Diamond Stone Plate is a premium medium grit sharpening stone at a mid-range price that works on almost all types of knives, scissors, tools and chisels, especially those made with abrasion resistant steels. While the 1x6 size is meant for use with the Jende JIGS for Knives, Edge Pro, Hapstone and TSProf sharpeners, it is also a great size for a slip stone, field stone or a pocket stone for knife repairs and sharpening on the go.
1" x 6" x 5mm in size and mounted to a steel blank, The Jende 1200 Diamond stone works best with water, but can also be used dry or with oil. Clean or rinse after use, and store in a dry place in between use to prevent any oxidation on the metal matrix.
Abrasive Material: Diamond Electroplate
Ideal place in a sharpening progression:
- Starting grit for maintaining a dull edge that is otherwise in good condition.
- To clean up deeper scratches left by coarser diamonds.
- As a finishing grit for an acceptable working edge.
- Before progressing to finer diamond plates or natural and synthetic sharpening stones (1500-5K grit)
This diamond plate can also be used in a mix and match progression of other synthetic and natural sharpening stones, as well with other brands such as Shapton, Sigma, Suehiro, Imanishi, Spyderco, King, etc.
On More Traditional Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel Edges the Jende 1200 Diamond Stone Plate works on all steel hardness on the Rockwell C Hardness scale. The plate aggressive, and makes quick cleanup work of maintaining or finishing the softer end of the spectrum of steels like X50CrMoV15, AUS6, 440B, and most steels used by many kitchen knife makers like Henckels, Wüsthof, Gunter Wilhelm, F Dick, Victorinox, etc. This is also a stone that can be utilized on softer steeled garden tools such as lawnmower blades and hedge clippers and other tools that don’t necessarily need to be as refined in sharpness as they need to be shaped well for cutting at speeds.
On the higher end of the hardness spectrum of traditional steel edges made with steels like 1095, 52100, 440C, Aogami White, Shirogami Blue, O1, W1, etc. The Jende 1200 Diamond is a very good transition grit from coarser diamond plates in preparation for further refinement with finer diamond plates or synthetic or natural stones. The 1200 grit edge is respectable, but the steels themselves are capable of, and benefit more from more refinement.
On Carbide Forming Steel and More Abrasion Resistant Steel Edges such as VG-10, D2, M2, S35V, S90V, S110V, etc., The Jende 1200 Diamond Plate excels at cleaning up the bevel from previous grits, while preparing the edge for the next diamond grit or stone. Diamond abrasives cut matrix steels and carbides like butter, making it an ideal third stone in your sharpening progression. If you are shooting for that Instagram picture perfect mirror edge, utilizing all 4 grits is essential in the preparation of the edge.
Hacks and Tips:
- Keeping the stone clean and hydrated with water will keep it more aggressive.
- Using it dry will leave a smoother, slightly sharper finish.
- Use less pressure to get a more consistent finish, and less cleanup at higher polish levels.
