What is IP 65 Waterproof?

IP 65 waterproof is an International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard that provides more technical and tested information than the vague marketing term of waterproof.

  • The first number 6 stands for Dust Tight - No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact (dust tight). A vacuum must be applied. Test duration of up to 8 hours based on air flow. 
  • The second number 5 stands for Water Jets - Water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.Test duration: 1 minute per square meter for at least 3 minutes. Water volume: 12.5 litres per minute. Pressure: 30 kPa at distance of 3 m.

What that translates into is an angle cube that can be used in most weather or shop conditions, inside or outside. It can also withstand many a spritz of water, light rain falls, or even an accidental dip in water or a gentle rinse of the sharpening station.
