This is a Jouhet Brevete Medialle ~6/8 Wedge Razor with brand new cedar wood scales. Placing this razor was difficult, but what is known is that this Jouhet is a farming area in France, so the razor is most likely from that region. This blade is definitely forged. The fact that it is a truly forged wedge with a slight hollow grind without jimps, and employs the apparent use of "Silver Steel" dates the blade as early as the 1830s, and as late as 1900. Our best guestimate would be 1880s.

This was honed with 3 layers of tape, which is not uncommon with some of the older, hand forged wedges. The condition is excellent, with minimal amounts of wear and pitting. The scales are brand new, made from a single piece of African cedar, and the pin is a phillips head screw and hex bolt for easy adjusting over time. The shave is smooth and easy, and while this may not be the best razor for a beginner, it is surely a really nice blade to have in your collection if you are a fan of wedges or of old school steels.
